Who We Are

The Egg Farmers of Newfoundland & Labrador (EFNL) is a Commodity Board governing the production of eggs in the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador. Each Province of Canada has a provincial egg board comprised of a Board of Directors and a local board office. The Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC) governs the egg industry of Canada. Each provincial board operates under a levy system. Levies are collected on a per bird basis from each producer in every province and allows for the day to day operation of the local boards and the operation of EFC and all the programs therein. Quota for egg production is allocated by EFC. Our board is comprised of six directors elected by the producers of our Province for a two-year term.

Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility

The Egg Farmers of Newfoundland & Labrador approach to social responsibility is rooted in our core values. Each EFNL staff member and Board Director, along with every registered egg farmer, takes the responsibility of feeding our fellow Newfoundlanders to heart. We honor the social license that the public has bestowed upon us to raise our hens, provide our eggs, steward over the land, and regulate our industry. Egg Farmers of Newfoundland & Labrador is dedicated to nurturing an egg industry that will be sustainable in Newfoundland & Labrador for generations to come.

Newfoundland & Labrador's egg farmers take great pride in what they do and how they do it; egg farming is their life and livelihood. The province’s egg farmers are committed to the pillars of animal welfare, food safety and quality, and environmental responsibility. They have a passion for farming, for providing healthy, nutritious food, and for contributing to the communities they call home.

Sustainability

Canadian egg farmers are making huge strides in greening our industry. In fact, the environmental footprint of Canada’s egg production supply chain declined by almost 50% between 1962 and 2012, while egg production increased by 50%.

In the Community

In many ways EFNL gives back to our community. We donate eggs as part of the Breakfast Clubs of Canada and for various fund-raising breakfasts. We sponsor many sports teams in the area. We have partnered up with Kids Eat Smart to help feed hungry school age children that may not have a nutritious breakfast given at home. We participate at many agriculture & healthy living shows where we give out various promotional items and excellent information. We have donated in-classroom garden boxes for the Agriculture in the Classroom – Little Green Thumbs program - Just to name a few.
